Get the Lead Out!!!

Folks, the new EPA guidelines for lead base paint renovations is coming like a freight train and there is now way to stop it.  The new regulations are set to hit on April 22, 2010.  In a nutshell this is what the new guidelines basically state.  If you are a homeowner doing your own work, you are not affected.  If you are a contractor doing any work in a pre 1978 residential or commercial property you need to be certified in lead base paint and hazardous waste removal.  I know a lot of you reading this are thinking that Ill just be the homeowner doing work.  That way when I higher the contractors I wont have to pay all of the extra cash to handle the remediation so I wont be affected. That will be fine until you need to pull a permit for work and the local governing body presses the issue.  The fine for not conforming to the new rules is only $32,000…… A DAY!!! So a word to the wise either don’t renovate a home built pre 1978 or do your due diligence.  Click here to read the EPA official guideline.
